Dragon Age™: Inquisition (Hawke and Stroud)
It was from this scene that I really started to fear Gaunter. In addition to the character, the ambient and eerie music acts as a real warning, that we are facing something completely unknown, powerful, terrifying and visibly impossible to kill.
Scariest villain in all of the Witcher.
More interesting storyline than the main story!
Having read Blood Meridian, Gaunter reminds me a lot of the Judge. Only he is not as goading, yet the evil is just there.
You know I never noticed tell now... That the graphics for this game, remind of Dragon Age Origins graphics. But on a better engine. XD
Odin better be in the next Witcher series.
I got goosebumps hearing this dialogue for the first time. Amazing Dialogue
I am a player from Poland. The game suprised me many times. However i became scared. I remember my dead grandmother. She always scolded me when i put my legs on the table. She told me " Ściągej nogi ze stołu. Punbuczek siedzi na stole." - meaning " Get your legs of the table. God is sitting on it."
4:49 you toss this fly in my soup?? 😂 took me off guard that
Man, english VA sucks Turn to Polish VA and eng subtitle
Geralt knew he Grants wishes just as they ask them, and geralt wished to knew who he realy was. if agreed, he probably would have showed him the true colors of a devil
Honestly, Gaunter seems more like an eldritch horror type of satan. Not the original rebellious Satan, but a being that treats you exactly how you treat others, a being that is a manifestation of "Reaping what thy sow", but just like the Devil, he also make contracts for his personal gains. It's like the moment he interacts with you, he starts to reflect your spirit like a mirror.
"give folk what they ask for"
You know there was definitely something about him when he teleports easily into Geralt's cell on the ship. But when he clapped his hands and thr entire world stopped, I was beyond terrified. What a fantastic character
Something particularly creepy. At 2:53 when he is answering Geralt about what he is, he is no longer looking at Geralt. He is looking at the camera. At you, the player. Telling you that you don’t want to know who and what he is.
3:55 Gaunter mentioned will give rewards beforehand. I need only one thing, your honest. I let Gaunter had Olgierd as the revenge for tricked me kill prince. In the end, contract fulfilled. You can also ask Gaunter about Ciri's information. He'll revealed how to get good ending. 1. Find a way make her laugh( playing snowball) 2. Let her destroy lavatory. 3. Grief with her 4. Let her meet lodge alone. 5. And never ever let her feel if you sold her out. Do not accept Emhyr's reward.
What O'dimm told Geralt about simply granting people their wishes is exactly what the Devil told Jesus in one of their interactions when Jesus was in the wildness being tempted by the Devil in Paradise Regain'd. O'dimm is the Devil himself, everything about this interaction here suggests that, and it's impossible to say that the devs/writers were not inspired by the biblical stories and lore to write O'Dimm. Pretty cool.
I just realized something last night. The acronym of Gaunther is GOD. If you take all first letters of his names and add them together. Coincidence?
Something I notice is that in this scene, he at times looks at you the player when he's talking to geralt
I know, right?? Creepy mofo from hell, this O'Dimm.
Oddly enough, I dont think Gaunter O'Dimm is a diety. People equate him to The Devil. And yes, from a folklore standpoint, he is mostly a reference to the legend of Sir. Twardowski, where Gaunter is the Stand-in for the devil in that story. Except Olgierd (Who has a lot in common with Twardowski himself, mostly visually) is more similar to Faust, a man who wanted to back out of his deal instead of embracing it and simply outsmarting the devil out of paying his debt. What I THINK Gaunter is, is a horizon walker. He's technically a mortal, who through knowledge and study managed to become... something one of a kind, traveling between worlds and bending what even magic can't. And my evidence is the following: - We know for a fact he's not omnipotent. When asked to give Ciri, he claims that Ciri is "Beyond his reach"... Interesting, he knows exactly where she is, but words it like he cannot go there. - Gaunter O'Dimm never lies. Ever. He only warps the meaning of words he actually said and speaks in half truths. And how does he describe what he did to Olgierd? "Used his many talents and influences"... he didn't say he used his powers, or that he gave him a supernatural gift. He's wording it as if he pulled some strings - The wishes he grants for Geralt are rather plain. They're mostly magical artifacts. He doesn't snap his fingers and make Geralt super fast, he gives him a weird saddle - He despises magic and thinks it crude and plain. Almost as if what he's doing is somehow more raw and direct. That... all seems to suggest that he's simply a person who IS everywhere and knows everything. And that explains how he's doing all the things he's doing. You ask him for something impossible? He reaches around for a spare trinket he picked up from a far-away universe that can do just the thing. You want to know something? He knows it. He stops time? He has traveled and seen so much he knows how to do it manually. And the fact that he hates magic is understandable. What he's doing is tampering with the source code, mages are simply using console commands, what they're doing is primitive and limited to him.
Is Gaunter the best character in video game history? It's close.
Pretty close, yeah.
Got Daedric Prince vibes from O'Dimm, except he's actually written how Bethesda should write their Elder Scrolls games.
The only one problem about O'dimm, which is minimum screen time
Love charismatic devil/satanic trickster character like him in books, movies, video games, and other works of fiction❤👿
2:42 THAT exchange alone was a massive indication. And the look he gives while he basically tells Geralt, “No, I won’t grant your wish this time Geralt. You really don’t want to know who I am”.. CHILLING.. and then how he effortlessly kills that drunk dude, before he leaves. Shoved a goddamn wooden spoon inside his eye socket while he was frozen in time. Lmao Yeh, he is HIM. The one with no name. Or with millions of names. He exists in every world, in every religion. Brilliantly done, and bone chilling
One of the best written characters in videogame History in my opinion. A bone-chilling mysterious antagonist.
Gaunter O'Dimm is the antichrist @@marconeves1979
He's scary because you slowly become aware that the person you once thought to be a common criminal or wizard is actually a being so powerful that you're simply powerless against him. We really hate to be this powerless, especially against someone who is also pure evil. His relaxed posture and the way he talks makes us feel that he can easily kill you or do things to you worse than death with absolutely no hesitation, and you can't do anything about it. I think everyone felt the need to finish whatever task he's giving you and get away from him, run away and never meet him again.
Whom you once thought an honest, forthcoming, innocent deity, you find out you knew nothing about him to begin with, and what's worse, he's pure evil.
He kill a guy that about to buy me drinks, now this is personal, I will personally banish him from this realm
ZA WARUDO!!!
My impression of Gaunter O’Dimm, was at first I merely thought he was offputting, than off putting and mysterious, then after the scene you learn that he is also incredibly dangerous and intimidating
he reminds me of Alfred Molina, especially when he smiles
"You actually control time, or is this some conjurer's trick?" "What difference does it make?" "A big one." I absolutely love that exchange. I love the seriousness with which Gearlt asks it, and the dismissive way O'Dimm answers. Also love that it just let's you sit with all the implications that come along with him being able to control time.
0:52
Ye, its pretty obvious what he is, He is higher dimensional Entity, makes sense why he does not want to Show his true self to mere mortals, Imagine Seeing 4D or 5D being in their true form, brain would not be capable of understanding it and you would simply be left a drooling idiot most likely. Also this makes you wonder, are there more beings like him out there in witcher universe? Probabbly yes, I hope they explore this Part of the lore in future games. Also what does he do with the souls he collect? I doubt he tortures them, that would be boring pretty quck when you are eternal cosmic being.
Always figured he was like the Witcher version of the G-Man.
Blue eyes_ cyberpunk 2077
Despite Gaunter stopping time, you can see light from candles flicker on the walls and people. Either an oversight or his time stop isn't really a timestop and more of a paralyze.
The scariest character in video games history 🙀🤠👏🏻
I love how Gaunter was designed to look like any other NPC, not like a devilshly handsome and well dressed guy either (pun intended) just a random peasant or Freeman you'd see wandering around.
U calling my boy Gaunter ugly???
Also known as god
He was the most dangerous opponent in W3. Even more dangerous than Eredin
This is VERY true!! Dattebayo, Shikamaru-san ;)
Thats why you ALWAYS make your first wish "I wish for you to give me what I desire, and not what I ask for." That means they have to deliver on what you ACTUALLY want and not twist the words of your wishes.
Its very close to the end of Hearts of Stone this. If you're not careful from here, you could miss some amazing dialogue. Dialogue from Professor Shakeslock He's the only person that we know of that has a rough idea who Gaunter is. He doesn't give any definate information to who Gaunter is, but his dialogue adds to the mystery of Gaubters character.
YES!! The part with the Professor is the BEST!! Straight from an excellent horror film, full of dark lore and all. It's one of my favorite moments in the entire game.
@@marconeves1979 it's awesome, mate 👍
Lawful Evil. Perfectly lawful evil
"Do you really wish to know?" That one flew right over my head LOL.
He’s evil but also can be reasoned with he isn’t lustful for power like Erydin or blinded by emotions like Detlaf. O dim like his merchant persona provides a particular service those whom make a contract agree willingly all he demands is payment for services rendered it could be your help or your soul but if you agree to his terms the consequences are yours to pay simple as. If you want to avoid the consequences of dealing with master mirror three simple strategies deal simply and honesty be clear what you want don’t dig the hole any bigger than it needs to and if you feel the price to high say no.
He's a great vilain because he's so inassuming. You look at him and he's the definition of a common nobody... until he isn't
I love Gaunter O Dimm, no one else even comes close to this dude Also look at the bowl at 0:56
I bet it is Loki or some other trickster god
This guy. He makes me feel uncofortable.
"What would you have me fall in love with? Width? Come now..." He hasnt seen any thicc asses it seems
is this the Wii version ?
No, PS4 back in 2016
What I love about this is that it shows you how dangerous he actually is. He's not bound by any laws really. He killed a random person just because he was annoyed by him. The whole deal with the devil thing is just him being bored.
